Questions from The Panic Asylum

Q: What is your vision for TPC, where do you want to see it go?
(Peebs)

Dave: Honestly I just want to do shows, play music and be happy and creatively fulfilled while doing it. I am not attached to numbers... sales, dollars or capacities. I'd love to see us get into the visual world with film/video imagery; to embrace conceptual pieces of work with a heavy 'digital factory' at our disposal, a space I am currently creating.

Q: In a perfect world, who would you like to see TPC tour with, if you could choose any band at all?
(Cori)

Dave: There are a few bands I would love to tour with. NIN, Audioslave, Queens, VR, GnR and Alice in Chains to name a few. I have this idea to do a show with Alice in Chains and after our set and theirs, we do a mixed band jam session called Alice in Jane's.

Q: Who designed the TPC logo and can we see any of their other work?
(chiliconcarnival)

Dave: Steve Isaacs designed it and you are currently browsing through some of his other fine work! This entire site.

Q: There seem to be a lot of bands using "Panic" in their name lately, have you all considered changing it at any point?
(Stardreme)

Dave: We have considered it, but fuck it. There are a lot of people called Dave, Steve, Stephen and Chris out there too.

Q: You've said that sonically, TPC is some of your strongest material to date. When you began the whole TPC process, did you ever believe that these songs would come out as potent and majestic sounding as they have?
(Lyn)

Dave: No, not really. We just let the songs go where they wanted to go. At first, I thought we might be going in a more raw and underproduced direction, but as time went by the songs called out for more and more attention. Some of the material didn't even show itself entirely until we were mixing. Steve and I used to turn down the lights in the mixing room and crank up the mixes on the huge speakers we called "The Flamethrowers". In some cases, it wasn't until then that I learned how deep some of the tracks actually became.

Q: When you're coming up with a song, do you ever think "i need to do something better than [insert song from jane's/rhcp/decon/etc...]" or do you just let everything from the past stand on it's own and not worry about trying to top yourself?
(six7six7)

Dave: I never really consider past works. I try to let the songs go where they want to go. To compare songs would be to stagnate the creative process.

Q: Relationship w/Stephen Perkins. Can you try to put it in words?
(six7six7)

Dave: He is one of my closest friends and family to me.

Q: Ever wish you didn't open up so much on your blog?
(six7six7)

Dave: Well my blog is pretty much a place where I discuss what I'm up to. I answer a few questions here and there. It's more of an informative area and not a place I "open up".

Q: Many people cite you as an inspiration. Who are yours?
(six7six7)

Dave: My greatest inspiration comes from the guys I am playing music with, whatever configuration that happens to be.

Q: Relationship w/higher power. Can you elaborate?
(six7six7)

Dave: I have a spiritual relationship with a higher power of my own understanding.

Q: Biggest misconception about you?
(six7six7)

Dave: That I have an average sized penis.

Q: Can you describe the process of writing TPC songs. Music, words, feelings come first, etc?
(six7six7)

Dave: There is no one way to approach a song. There is no formula, sometimes it is music first, sometimes it is thoughts or feelings first, sometimes everything happens at the same time through a jam session with the guys.

Q: You don't spend a lot of time in the past do you?
(six7six7)

Dave: No.

Q: Is there a song that you are most proud of, or even one you are writing that you can't wait to record?
(helena)

Dave: They are all like children. I can’t love one more than the other.

Q: Is it sometimes hard to get the song exactly how you hear it in your head?
(helena)

Dave: Nah, I just let it evolve.

Q: What would you like the fans including me to say after they hear the album?
(helena)

Dave: This record is so great I should buy 2 more.

Q: What your 'imaginary' rider would look like, what items do you HAVE to have backstage?
(jezebel)

Dave: Coffee, smokes, water, new socks and underwear.

Q: Your first thought upon waking up?
(jezebel)

Dave: Coffee.

Q: From the actor's studio interviews: What is your favorite curse word?
(jezebel)

Dave: Fuck. ...it pretty much goes with everything.

Q: what sustains you in the empty moments? what brings you back to your center, spiritually speaking?
(sexsinger)

Dave: Friends, laughter, prayer, and a whole new episode of "24".

Q: Favorite Junk Foods?
(Denise)

Dave: Pizza, chocolate cake, ice cream.

Q: If you had to make a career change, what would you do?
(stardreme)
