Spring Tour 2006 Update from Atlantic City

sirius.jpg

On to the greatest city in the world, New York City for the second day of a three day stretch. Thursday was a blur of interviews, photo shoots and radio performances. Dave and Stephen did VH1, Chris did a shoot for Bass Guitar magazine, and Dave and Steve had a shoot for Guitar World magazine. In the middle of the day The Panic Channel visited the uber-futuristic Sirius satellite radio studios. The place was amazing - like how a radio station would look in a movie; huge floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city, expensive studios and control rooms everywhere. We played 3 songs then did a couple interviews. One that was a pain in the ass, and one decent one.

dave_ny.jpg

ny_sigil.jpgWe got to the venue, "The Avalon" and two Panic Agents had already chalked the sigil on the sidewalk outside the club. The Avalon is the current name for what used to be the legendary Limelight Club, a gigantic gothic cathedral that was privately bought years ago and has seen some of the best shows and most debauched club scenes since. We were all excited to play this old, dark, beautiful place. Sadly, not only the name had changed. All the wonderful stained glass had been covered over, and the inside had none of the old church vibe; inside it had become any other club.

The show came and went, and we were visited by New York friends, a bunch of Panic Asylum agents, as well as Spread Radio Live indie artist of the month "kHz". All in all, it was a bit too much stuff to pack into one day, and after the show we were beat.

boston_sigil.jpg

Friday we woke up in Boston, Massachusetts. Two radio interviews and one on-air performance. A sudden rainstorm. Even in the rainy weather, we were greeted by a chalk sigil outside the Paradise Lounge. The club was far enough outside downtown Boston, that no one got to actually visit Boston on our visit to Boston. Before the show we caught up on some site work in the back lounge of the bus.

steve_computer.jpg

The Boston crowd was great, and after the show we hung out and met people at the bus, and got ready for the trip to Atlantic City and a much needed day off. The bus movie selection for the trip: John Carpenter's "The Thing".

We arrived in Atlantic City on Saturday afternoon. Originally we had been slated to play Philadelphia and Detroit, but our booker cancelled the shows, due to the holiday weekend. Apparently it's not a great time to book club tours around Memorial Day - and we would have also been on a 5 day stretch which would have been a problem. We are sorry to our friends in both these cities for the confusion, and plan on coming back for sure when we tour in the Fall.

We were guests of the Borgata casino in Atlantic City for our show on Sunday. They gave us all rooms, and let us eat for free. It was great. The view of the Atlantic City strip was lovely, even though no one got to go see it up close. The rooms are beautiful and worlds away from the 9 man sardine can life we've been living so far on tour. On Saturday Poochie lost some cash playing poker, and Dave and Steve worked on website stuff. On Sunday Stephen got a massage in the spa, Dave made a video podcast, and everyone met our new Tour Manager, Ron Dorba.

Chris Kansy, the Panic Channel Spring Tour 2006 tour manager up to this point, who was an absolutely fantastic part of this team, and a really great guy to be around on the bus, had to leave to join Roger Waters on a "Dark Side of the Moon" world tour. We are happy for Chris and wish him all the best.

We played tonight at the Music Box theatre in the Borgata. It was an odd show - first, it was in a theatre with seats, and wasn't general admission - kinda strange for a rock show - second, we found out why Memorial Day ain't great for club shows - let's just say this was our most "intimate" show.

We were blessed to see a lot of familiar faces from New York and Boston, and one Panic Agent (tell us your name and we'll add it here) even gave us a lite-brite with a multicolored Panic icon. Points for creativity! Unfortunately Steve got over-zealous jumping off the drum riser and the lite-brite took a bad fall. It's here on the bus, though, as well as all the other gifts we're received: a Buddha head, Panic Ouija Necklaces, a Haunted Mansion painting, and a couple Panic icon banners. Thanks everyone...

We're now watching "Fight Club" on an eleven hour journey toward the Midwest. Next stop, Chicago, Illinois.

Spring Tour 2006 Update from DC

exorcist_stairs.jpg

After the Atlanta show we got into the bus for a nine hour trek up the East coast to Washington DC. On the bus ride we watched a video of the night's performance at the Roxy. This was the first time we'd seen any video of the the tour and the Roxy's lighting setup really looked great.

Steve was nursing his right hand index finger after tearing off part of his fingernail playing "Night One". Afterwards we all did a late night viewing of "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" in the front lounge. We watched "The Exorcist" a couple nights ago as well- satanic possesion movies go over pretty well on the bus.

We got to DC early enough so that some could grab a few hotel bed winks, and Steve and Dan took a sightseeing walk to the Lincoln and Washington Memorials and the White House. The weather in DC is absolutely perfect, and it's great to have a little bit of free time to enjoy this awesome city.

Tuesday was an off day, and our manager Jared (who was raised in DC) took the band out for dinner and later we all went out to the stairs from "The Exorcist" to snap some pics. We were planning to do one of our guerilla acoustic performances, but Steve was resting his voice for the upcoming 3 day stretch. Later on Dan, Shawn, Poochie and Steve set up a late night hotel room poker game. Dan took it down.

Wednesday we spent a couple hours on the Elliott in the Morning show on DC 101, which was a blast. We played "Why Cry", "Blue Bruises" and "Outsider", and had a great time shooting the breeze.

That night, we played one of the country's great rock clubs; the 9:30 club and had our best show of the tour so far. The room was a great size, the lights and sound were ideal, and the audience was a joy to play for. Towards the end of the set we invited some fans onstage to help us lead the crowd in a gang count from 1 to 13, for a possible final album track. The crowd was so good to us that it felt like the right time to try this idea out. Sadly, everything about the show went off without a hitch except this ...the recording equipment was on the fritz, and we didn't get a full audio track of the count. Apologies, DC - it was us, not you... Maybe we'll try again before the end of the tour. That issue aside, we had a killer stop in our nation's capitol and we all say thanks to DC for such a welcome!

We've been monitoring the 7 Clues to Become the (ONe) thread in the Asylum, and have made it somewhat easier to "see" the first clue. New clue coming tonight...

And now, by request... some more shots of our tattoo stop in Little Five Points, Atlanta, Georgia:

Spring Tour 2006 Update from Atlanta

tour_bus.jpg

The Panic Channel Spring Tour 2006 has now crossed from the West to the East coast.

The first stop in San Diego was a blast, and thanks to all the Panic Asylum moderators and friends who came out to see us off right. Here are some pics that Wendybird took at the show. We got our first shipment of Panic Channel shirts which turned out great, and we will soon have them available for sale here at thepanicchannel.com.

After a big bus drive west we got to a baking hot Arizona. We did some radio station acoustic performances ("Blue Bruises" and "Outsider"). We played the Martini Ranch and the crowd was awesome. Only three songs have been released so far, but people are already singing the words along with us, which is great.

Right after the show we got back on the bus for a 20 hour drive to Dallas. We had the night off and we went to the JFK assasination site at Dealey Plaza and played a midnight acoustic show at the grassy knoll. We plan on doing random acoustic shows when we have time at various places of power and energy.

The show the next night at Dallas' Gypsy Tea Room started off with some crazy onstage sound issues, but we got 'em tied up and tried out an acoustic "Outsider" later in the set.

Our opening band is "Bullets and Octane" - a kick ass rock solid 4 piece that we are proud to be touring with. Good guys and a great band, if you are coming to one of our shows be sure to come early to catch 'em.

Houston, Texas was next on Saturday night: we played late at the Meridian. So far, this was the largest room we've played; it had a nice big stage and the sound was the best we've had yet as well. Houston really gave it up for us, and we humbly thank you all for the warm welcome. We love Houston.

dave_sacred_heart.jpg

We made 800 miles last night and woke up on the East coast. Hotlanta is warm and friendly, and we went to the Sacred Heart Tattoo Shop in Little Five Points to get ink. Sean London, our sound engineer got the Panic icon on his arm. Poochie, Stephen's drum tech got the icon in some open space on his forearm. Dave got the icon on the top of his right hand and Steve got it on the inside of his left forearm. Dan, Steve's guitar tech came along for support.

We thank each and every one of you who have come out to the shows and listened and made us feel so welcome.

My Local Bands.com Page

mylocalbands_screen.jpg

We are now on MyLocalBands.com. If you haven't been there, it's like MySpace meets bands on tour. The Panic Channel.com should have a pop-up window showing our brand new page there (if you can't see it, please enable pop-up windows for thepanicchannel.com in your browser).

The Panic Channel MyLocalBands page
gives you a clickable map of our route across the country, and you can click on the shows you are going to, add pics you take at the show, and hook up with other Panic Agents. It's pretty great, so go on over, have a look and register - it's free!

These clues can lead anywhere: somewhere on our site, in a photograph, or somewhere else online entirely. There will be Seven clues total that will create a riddle that you will need to find the answer to. The winner will be the one who correctly posts the one word answer to the riddle at thepanicchannel.com on the contest's final day, 6/7.

What does the (ONe) win? To be thanked by name in the liner notes on our upcoming album, (ONe). Feel free to share information in the Asylum.

New York Post Interview

Today, more rehearsal... We are leaving for our tour in less than a week. So much to do! We have a film crew hanging with us for a couple of days getting additional web content. Dave did a TPC interview yesterday on Spread Radio Live. After so many dealings with the press twisting words and selectively editing soundbites for a juicier story, Dave decided to broadcast his interview and record it. The story is for The New York Post, but Dave felt that the story's contents would be of more interest to you guys than the entire circulation of the NYP. Nothing against the Post or it's readers, but the fact remains that if you are already on this site, you are more likely to want to hear it. The TPC portion of the interview can be found here.

The Panic Asylum

Well, it is a fact. The Panic Community is no more. Gone forever. We would now like to invite you to join our new board, The Panic Asylum! A place much more intense, yet just as familiar. Please "check in" to our world of cathartic purging and rehabilitation. Simply use the new "Asylum" link located in the Nav at the top of this page, sign the waver and you're admitted!

(We would like to thank the following online team for making this swift recovery possible: Mortisha8, White Pony and of course, Dr. Loop)

Community Down

Hey all. As you can see the "Community" button is missing on the nav, and if you've tried to get in, there is just an error screen. Sadly, it seems as if the Community is pretty sickly, and the outlook isn't good. We are working on it, but for the time being it's in the infirmary. We will get it back online as soon as possible.
