Sunday 10 - Answers

The following five answers are from Dave:

1. Have you guys worked out the set list? Will you be treating us to 'Dazed and Confused'?

We start putting the set together on Friday. I know we want to do a cover or two and I'm sure that Dazed and Confused will be one of them. We have a few ideas so my thinking is that we rotate the covers from night to night. One night Dazed, something else the next, etc.

2. Have you got a release date for the TPC album?

Actually I am not sure because believe it or not, Capitol wants to push the release UP. Our release could be sooner than later. An unprecedented event in the music industry. (Well, not really, but for us it is!)

3. How do you guys feel about diving back into the industry with all the labels and predetermined ideas about the band and its members, are you guys worried?

No, I'm not worried at all. In fact, it seems like there has always been that vibe with records I do. RHCP, New Jane's, Solo stuff... There is always a sense of "expectation". I'm used to it. At the end of the day, it IS music. Can't make everyone happy. I think we are all just proud to have created something from nothing. As challenging as it is, we are still in a better boat than if we were a new line up of fresh faces. That's why I work so much with new bands. THEY are the ones with so many strikes against them when they start out as times are tough in the rock world these days. That's why I always tell artists, "Be sure you love what you do, because not everyone will." That's the attitude!

4. We know what the experience is like from the audience looking up... what are you thinking and feeling while onstage looking down?

Everything from "this is the most magical night of my life" to "I wonder if Flight Plan is playing on cable at the hotel".

5. As far as I can tell there will be 12 tracks on the album. And from what I remember Steve has a superstition of sorts against even numbers. What prompted an even number of songs on the album?

Steve has a thing about "odds" and I have a thing about "13". (6+7 etc.) I think we have found a solution. More will be revealed.

The following five answers are from Steve:

1. Does he (Steve) do any of the lead playing on this album?

No, I hold down the fort with quiet/loud dynamics on the rhythm guitar, and Dave lets fly with the swirling psychedelic sonic soundscapes.

2. Steve, I remember on the old Panic Channel site, you were posting lyrics to the songs in your handwriting, did you save those? Any chance of seeing them again, either as part of album artwork, or incorporated on this site?

Yes, I have about 5 sketchbooks filled up since the beginning of The Panic Channel, and after the site is on its feet and its ready for some frosting, I'll scan a few of the original pages for the lyrics area.

3. What would you say if for christmas your friend bought you a gift in the form of a goat, for a family in africa?

I'd be pretty stoked. Anything that can provide a sense of being more connected to people no matter where they are or what they do, is good for all of us. I'd be pretty impressed by the gifter as well.

4. Steve, i heard you can sprout root vegetables from your eyes. is this true? if so what are your favourite eye foods to produce?

Daikon Radishes.

5. Any plans for any shows over here in the UK? You seem to have quite a following already over here, would be great to see you guys live!

If it were up to me, we would have been across the pond 7 times already. I've always been fascinated by the UK, and I love the British sense of humour. As soon as we possibly can, we'll come over and play, and I for one, couldn't be more excited.

Great Answers especially interested in the last (ONe)...

Where are all the participants?

Can't wait for the Minneapolis show at the Fine Line, a GREAT venue. Now if only Jordis could join you guys. She'd bring it. If you guys are doing rotating covers, it is too soon to make a request? "When the Levee Breaks", pleeease?

sorry but that (ONe) pun was just terrible

Jordis joining TPC would be the worst thing ever. Leave the singing to Steve... he has this shit on LOCK!

I am all about the new artist advice.... That IS where it is at!!! We've all got to do what we love, regardless of varying opinions and criticisms, what happens- happens!

Hey,
You guys were in my 80’s nuts newsletter that I received this morning:

“The Panic Channel (vocalist Steve Isaacs with former Jane's Addiction members Dave Navarro, Stephen Perkins and Chris Chaney) will release their debut album, (ONe), on Sept. 12th featuring the first single, "Why Cry." The single and the song "Tea House Of The Spirits" will be released digitally.”

Word is spreading! (It’s a Yahoo group).

80's nuts newsletter - that sounds a little scarry

Sorry for the multiposts, but I wanted to put this here besides on 6767. (after D's webcast comment)
Are you going to film the shows too? Why don't you let us bring our video cams to the shows, you can get official fan bootlegs to put up here? You could take the tapes before we leave, and put them up.
Just an idea.
Also, you should look into this company:
http://www.instantlive.com/

You can provide us with instant CDs of the shows. Better than a T-shirt, even!

I can't wait to see you guys in San Diego! I'll probably be the oldest, but wisest fan there. It will be interesting to see the mix!

Nobody answered where is SWEET SUSIE MCNEIL(as Dave so lovingly calls her)? Have you forgot about her already? HA HA.

You guys are doing an awesome job on your website! I know you like that word dude.

Yey! Steve answered my question about coming over here to the UK for a few shows! Thanks Steve.

I'm glad to hear the UK is a place that fascinates you and your wanting to come out here and play, that's cool to hear. Needless to say when it happens I am there!!!

Over to the music page for my daily fix of 'Go On' now!

Sunday 10-

Will you guy's be doing any sort of pre or post show "meet & greet", since it's your first tour, and it's intimate venues, and such limited dates? (i.e. you'll be playing for the hardest of core fans of TPC). If so, how will invites be determined?? (Though, Steve already told me to feel free and drop by and say "hi"...I'm guessing the tour bus at the 9:30 Club would be the place to do this, and I'm guessing Dave won't be on it...)

Question for dave.
How did you like your "wife" on Howard Stern riding the Sibian and them all calling you gay and cheap? Also, what has made you switch main guitars over the years?
